If you would like to donate more than the registration fee, please feel free to do so, just enter in a larger number. If you can't come to the race but would like to make a donation, click the Paypal button, follow the steps, and let us know you made a donation but won't be at the race.

Cross-Country Teams

This race will be scored similar to an invitational. The top seven runners on a team will score (you may enter more than seven runners in the race). All scores will be based on other high school runners. Other runners will be disregarded in scoring. The top scoring male and female team will each receive a trophy. The cost of a team is $10 per runner.

What this 5K will accomplish

The goal of our Eagle Project is to build a school in Ethiopia and make educational materials for them. We are working with ASCEND, a humanitarian organization that helps villages to become self-reliant. Their philosophy is that the best way to change the world is to make permanent changes. For example, shipping clean bottled water to a country like Peru is great, but if it is possible to install a water well and purification system, then there will be no need to ship in water year after year. Instead, they can spend those funds on another water well in another village, and then the effects will spread.

My brother and I would like to help ASCEND build a school because education is the most valuable resource on the planet. If we can give these kids an education that they desire so badly, then they can support their village and their family much more efficiently.

Purpose

This Blog will serve as a full service site for the ASCEND 5K Race. This is a race that will happen July 18Th, 2009 in Holladay, Utah.

This race is the idea of Matt and Jake Cowden who are Boy Scouts in Holladay. They are working on their Eagle Project. They are planning, organizing and executing this 5K race.

All proceeds from this race will go for educational materials and to build a school in Ethiopia. ASCEND is the nonprofit organization we will use. ASCEND is an oraganization that strives to empower those in need to save their children and ascend out of poverty. http://www.ascendalliance.org/
